Project asks Australians to show support for solar power

A community project which aims to ensure the rights of solar owners are protected has been launched nationally today (May 14). Solar Citizens will also aim to encourage the adoption of solar power and wants to see Australia "put a panel on every rooftop." Research team looks at solar for powering skyscrapers

A research team based in Melbourne has received $4 million grant funding for the development of a technology that could enable skyscrapers to be powered entirely by sunlight. Researchers from Swinburne University of Technology and the CSIRO will use funding provided through the Science and Industry Endowment Fund (SIEF) to develop nanoplasmic solar cell technology. Specifically, they will create a small scale pilot project using the patented thin film solar technology known as NanoPlas. NanoPlas was developed at the Victoria-Suntech Advanced Solar Facility. Australian-first trial for 'hot rocks' power generation

A South Australian company has become the first in Australia to produce energy using geothermal 'hot rocks' technology. Geodynamics Limited has successfully commissioned its Habanero Pilot Plant in the Cooper Basin region of South Australia. The plant will use world-leading technology that has the potential to further build Australia's renewable energy resources, which already include hydro-electric, wind and solar power. The plant will use Enhanced Geothermal Systems (EGS) technology, a type of geothermal energy that produces power by superheating water using hot rocks deep beneath the ground. Community calls for cut to $10bn government fossil fuel subsidies

Leading Australian environmental and community groups have signed a joint statement calling on the Australian Government to end fossil fuel subsidies, which cost taxpayers more than $10 billion per year. Signatories including the Australian Conservation Foundation, WWF and Greenpeace have called for the abolition of subsidies they claim create an uneven playing field that discriminates against renewable sources such as wind and solar energy.
