Project asks Australians to show support for solar power
A community project which aims to ensure the rights of solar owners are protected has been launched nationally today (May 14). Solar Citizens will also aim to encourage the adoption of solar power and wants to see Australia "put a panel on every rooftop." Solar Citizens is an off-shoot of the community organisation known as "100% Renewable", which aims to help Australia move towards a renewable energy future. A research team based in Melbourne has received $4 million grant funding for the development of a technology that could enable skyscrapers to be powered entirely by sunlight. Researchers from Swinburne University of Technology and the CSIRO will use funding provided through the Science and Industry Endowment Fund (SIEF) to develop nanoplasmic solar cell technology. Geodynamics Limited has successfully commissioned its Habanero Pilot Plant in the Cooper Basin region of South Australia. Leading Australian environmental and community groups have signed a joint statement calling on the Australian Government to end fossil fuel subsidies, which cost taxpayers more than $10 billion per year.
